Loyola Marymount University

I am a sophomore student at LMU in Los Angeles. LMU is a private Jesuit and Marymount research university with over 150 degrees, certificates, and credentials. LMU’s reputation is superb as one of the nation’s top universities, preparing outstanding individuals for lives of meaning, purpose, and professional success. I am an accounting and finance major, with a love for marketing, and LMU cultivates an environment where I learn and grow each and every day.

Accounting

This program prepares students for careers in public, corporate, or governmental accounting. When I graduate, I will have met the educational requirements to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). I am learning to explain, apply, and evaluate financial accounting concepts at a professional level. The reasons I feel that I will be great as an accounting major are that I like solving puzzles, am great with numbers, understand what numbers mean, am interested in business and economics, and enjoy looking a real-world business cases.

Marketing

While I started at LMU at a marketing major, I have since changed my major to accounting and finance, but I still have a love of marketing and hope to engage in it still. Through this education I will learn how to facilitate exchanges between individuals and organizations. The reason I enjoy marketing is that I can use the skill I learn through it to market myself in any career. Learning skills like communication, selling, and advertising all can be taken into any career and help tremendously.

Finance

This major will help me understand and engage with the lifeline of business, finance. I am learning concepts in financial planning, financial policy, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and investment in both U.S. and international markets. This major will develop me into a well-rounded individual with critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills. I will develop skills in the application of the finance concepts, techniques, practices, and decision making essential to sound investing and personal and corporate financial planning.
